What’s happening in the world of IBM i? Discover how the IBM i operating system will continue to remain relevant and support the latest ideals of IBM’s Smarter Computing initiative . We will discuss the most current announcements from IBM, and talk about where the future of IBM i will lead.

IBM i Application Development Strategy and Update

The world of Application Development is evolving very quickly . New tools, new technologies, and new languages are coming forward at an incredible rate. IBM i developers are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the new advancements while capitalizing on their existing investments . This session will review some of the hottest industry trends and the latest announcements from IBM and look at how they all tie together.

PowerHA SystemMirror for IBM i

PowerHA SystemMirror for IBM i has been changing the way IT shops do HA the world over. Once available only to our AIX and System Z clients, clustering has been embraced by IBM i customers large and small and these days everyone knows someone who’s running PowerHA for their HA/DR operations. In this session we will talk about the business value, the latest announced enhancements as well as a discussion on the product roadmap.

CBU for IBM i

The CBU for IBM i, has been available for over a decade and continues as the offering of choice for clients looking to implement HA/DR solutions. In this session we will go over the offering with focus on the terms and conditions as well as some examples showing you how to configure for compliance. We have compiled a long list of actual questions from business partners and clients around the world and we’ll go through a bunch of them and show you how we answered.


Alison Butterill

Alison is the IBM i Product Manager working for IBM Power Systems . Having worked in the mid-range area for more than 30 years, Alison has held a wide variety of positions at IBM , primarily with midrange servers and software. She has held a range of positions including field Systems Engineer , an instructor in Customer Technical Education, national support representative for IBM Canada, and Worldwide Technical Marketing support representative for the development tools and compilers from the IBM Toronto Laboratory. For many years, Alison has been working with application developers and the Rational and WebSphere teams at IBM to ensure that the Application Development offerings for IBM i satisfy the requirements of IBM i customers. Alison is a regular speaker at industry and technical conferences around the world.

Steven Finnes

Steven Finnes has spent several years in IBM spanning research and development in electron optics, to basic product design including the first AS/400 processor, memory and I./O processors. As the chief engineering manager for I/O and storage he and his team brought the first Raid5 product offering to market in the early 90s. He’s been involved in the iSeries High Availability core leadership team for 10 years and is currently the Power Systems Business Continuity product manager.
